Audio recording from inside the Oregon State Capitol building during the Oregon SOS – Fight High Rents and Low Wages demonstration. Participants sat down and linked hands outside of Governor Kate Browns office, extending into the hallway. They formed a collective voice as they called out statements and chants addressing issues pertaining to poverty, homelessness, our housing state of emergency, rent increases, minimum wage, black lives matter and more. Their collective message is to Governor Kate Brown and the Oregon Legislation. Their voices were heard throughout the building. “Mic check” was often used to announce when someone in the crowd was about to speak. When mic check is stated, all of the participants repeat mic check and proceed to repeat what the speaker is saying, which is then followed by chants that reiterate the statement.
